General & Light Maintenance
- Perform routine repair work on doors, locks, window screens, blinds, and interior furnishings.
- Complete minor plumbing repairs, including unclogging drains, replacing faucet washers, and fixing leaky toilets.
- Perform minor electrical fixes, such as replacing light fixtures, switches, outlets, fuse replacements, and changing lightbulbs across campus.
- Inspect dorm rooms, common areas, and exterior structures regularly for needed repairs or safety hazards.
- Cleaning & Turnover Support
- Assist housekeeping with deep cleaning during student move-in/move-out periods, seasonal breaks, and turnovers.
- Clean and sanitize shared spaces, common bathrooms, laundry rooms, and recreational areas as needed.
- Ensure proper waste disposal and recycling management across dorm facilities.
Surface Care & Painting
- Prep, patch, dry-wall repair, and paint student rooms, corridors, and exterior surfaces.
- Repair minor sheetrock damage and touch up high-traffic zones regularly.
Vehicle & Fleet Upkeep
- Perform basic routine vehicle maintenance on student shuttle vans and maintenance utility vehicles (checking fluid levels, tire pressure, replacing wipers, washing, and coordinating major servicing).
- Transport tools, equipment, or supplies between residential buildings as needed.
Boarding & Student Housing Operations
- Turnover Readiness: Rapidly inspect, repair, and prepare rooms for arriving students prior to the start of each academic term.
- Emergency Response: Participate in an on-call rotation for facility emergencies (e.g., pipe bursts, lockouts, heating/cooling issues).
- Grounds & Exterior: Assist with basic groundskeeping around dorm entrances, including litter pickup, minor landscaping, and seasonal snow/ice clearing on walkways.
- Safety & Compliance: Test and maintain fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, emergency lighting, and exit signage in accordance with safety regulations.
- Key & Lock Management: Assist with re-keying doors, managing electronic access badges, and resolving student lockout requests.
Key Qualifications
- Experience: experience in general maintenance, handyman work, residential building repair, or custodial services.
- Skills: Functional knowledge of light plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and basic mechanical care.
- License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required for operating shuttle and maintenance vehicles).
- Clearances: Must pass a comprehensive background check and child safety screening required for working in a student/minor residential environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, stand/walk for extended periods, and work in varied weather conditions.
- Interpersonal Skills: Friendly demeanor, strong communication skills, and comfort working around students and dormitory staff.
